Dr. Matt Yoxall

Position: FACILITATOR-COACH

Dr. Matt Yoxall is a theatre-maker, training consultant, and academic. He trained in theatre in London in the mid-1990s at Middlesex University (BA, MA), and went on to work as a professional storyteller, specializing in museum and art gallery education and projects for community cultural development.

Matt has lived in Southeast Asia since 2003, and has fused his theatrical and development work in providing consultancy services to international and intergovernmental organizations. His fields of focus in the humanitarian sector have included anti-human-trafficking efforts, refugee resettlement, and programs to end violence against women and girls. Using a theatre-based approach, he has facilitated training on experiential learning, approaches to outreach and information campaigns, psychosocial programming, and conflict resolution. He is an NMAS Certified Mediator (Australia). He recently had three shows touring the highlands of Chin State, Myanmar, for CHRO — the Chin Human Rights Organization — created to promote safer migration. He also sits on the CHRO board.

Matt received his doctorate in Theatre Studies (fully funded) from the National University of Singapore in 2016. He currently lives between Chiang Mai, Thailand and Canberra, Australia. More than anything, he loves to travel. He once lived in a rice field for three months while learning Balinese dance. It was a very happy and content moment in his life, often spent watching gentle plumes of smoke rise from the mouth of the volcano, situated somewhere in the very near distance…
